The Day Care Centre, literally the courtyard playcentre, is a childcare centre, located within the village or the slum area itself. Day Care Centre (Anganwadi or preschool, serving the children from below poverty line families) is the focal point for the delivery of services at the community level, to children below six years of age, pregnant and nursing mothers, and adolescent girls. Day Care Centre also serves as the meeting place for women's groups, mothers' clubs and mahila mandals promoting awareness and joint action for child development and women's empowerment.
